APUS Experiential Design
Overview
American Public University System has unveiled three states of the art buildings since 2010 at their headquarters in Charles Town, WV. Many of the buildings lacked brand. Therefore, in 2015 a committee was organized to get the input of what employees and faculty would like to see through the physical buildings, many of the ideas came to fruition through this participatory design process.
Challenge
The main challenge was to obtain feedback from multiple stakeholders and set expectations based on budget and resources. This was a multi-faceted project that required the installation of multiple assets as some of the more intricate designs were created.
Solution
The buildings with the best real estate for brand visibility were identified and a higher percentage of the budget was allocated to those areas. Production was divided into three categories, low level of effort (e.i., logos and posters), medium level (e.i., wall-wraps, typographic elements) high level (e.i., acrylic panels, and custom walls with custom designs). As the installation of certain areas occur the design of more custom areas was being created, helping to keep the project moving forward and within budget.
